Private tutor in Palo Alto, CA

Education

Pennsylvania State University, B.S. Mathematics, B.S. Geosciences, GPA = 3.75, Graduated May 2011 PhD Candidate, Stanford University Department of Geophysics

Experience

SAT = 640 Reading, 800 Math, 700 Writing AP = Statistics (5), Physics (5), Calculus BC (5), Chemistry (5), English (4) I volunteer fairly frequently teaching Earth Science (such as Stanford's Geokids program, Bay Area Science festival) usually to children. I really enjoy helping others learn and I am looking for a bit of extra cash to cover expenses, so tutoring seemed like an excellent way to cover both goals. Relevant Classes: Single and Multivariable Calculus, Diff EQ, Analysis, Set and Group Theory, Geometry (application and theory), University Intro Chemistry and Physics, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Paleontology, Seismology, Earth Science Systems Modeling, C/C++ for Scientists and Engineers, Large-Scale Computing, Parallel Computing, Modern FORTRAN, Earthquake Seismology My research focuses on modeling Earth systems (particularly earthquakes) at high resolution. To accomplish this task, one needs an understanding of how to formulate the physical system mathematically and translate that system to a computer code. At the scales I require, this often means that I need a code that can run efficiently on very large computers. Examples of such hardware include a local Linux cluster run by the Stanford Center for Computational Earth & Environmental Sciences and a BlueGene/P supercomputer located at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia.
