Experience

Hi, I began tutoring during graduate school at Yale and I really enjoy mentoring college-bound students. To me, there's nothing more rewarding than helping students reach their potential. I am fortunate to have worked with some truly spectacular students, some of whom I mentored have gone on to college or grad school at Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, and UCSF. My formal education is in life sciences, but my interests span a broad range of topics, from microbiology and agriculture to modern art and literature. Though I'm not qualified to teach all of these subjects, I often find my genetics lessons using examples from my experience breeding cattle in Virginia or in a completely different direction, with a quote by Kurt Vonnegut. In addition to my areas of expertise, I also love working with students through the college application process, from deciding which schools to apply to, applying for scholarships, and writing their personal statement. Since my parents didn't have enough money to pay for me and my three brothers to attend college, I had to get creative in finding scholarships to fund my education. Outside of tutoring, my full-time job is as a post-doctoral researcher in George Church's lab (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kuYQwfmUTc) at Harvard Medical School where I'm studying the cellular mechanism underlying aging.
