Experience

I am a warm, dedicated and attentive tutor. I genuinely love the learning process and am passionate about helping my students succeed. Over the last decade, I have helped students from elementary school to graduate school master just about every imaginable written assignment. This includes academic essays, of course, but also creative writing assignments, personal narratives, book reports, research reports, interviews, speeches, blog posts, etc. I offer guidance through all, or any part, of the composition process, including research, thesis development, structure, style and formatting. My students learn to make strong, logical arguments that are accessibly written and free of grammatical errors. I find that most students struggle with essay writing because they simply have not been taught what an essay actually is and how it works. I put in the effort to correct these fundamental misconceptions and mistakes. The result is that my students not only begin to excel - they begin to enjoy writing as well! In addition to essay writing, I've also tutored students in English and language arts, history, social studies, political science, gender studies, identity studies and philosophy. Philosophy can be particularly intimidating, especially for first year university students. If you're looking for someone to translate complex ideas into plain language and explain abstract concepts through everyday examples, I'm here for you. My down to earth approach makes philosophy accessible and relevant. I know no two students learn, listen or think in exactly the same way. Therefore, I provide a personalized approach based on your strengths and weaknesses. I want to see you succeed on your own merits and gain long-term skills, as well as confidence. I enjoy working with students of all ages and backgrounds, and love spreading the joy of learning and writing! With the right support and communication, my students see results. Nothing is more rewarding to them or to me! In addition to tutoring, I'm also an editor who has worked one-on-one with numerous clients on university and job applications, presentations, books, scholarly articles, press releases, marketing materials and creative projects.
